CITY OF PEORIA, ARIZONA ARTS COMMISSION OUTLOOK ROOM OCTOBER 11, 2011 A Regular Meeting of the Arts Commission of the City of Peoria, Arizona, was convened at 9875 N. 85th Avenue, at 5:04 p.m. Members Present: Robert Benson, Lizabeth Gordon, Christopher Hearn, Jack Lytle, Steve Poe and Pamela Potter Members Absent: Marleejean Johnson Other Municipal Officials Present: Jeff Tyne, Community Services Director; Kirk Haines, Parks Manager; Andre Licardi, Cultural Arts Coordinator and Ellen Comella, Administrative Assistant Audience: 2 Note: The order in which the items appear in the minutes is not necessarily the order in which they were discussed at the meeting. CONSENT AGENDA All items listed with a “C” are considered to be routine by the Arts Commission and were enacted by one motion. Minutes: 1C Discussion and possible action to approve/excuse member’s absence from September 13, 2011 regular meeting: Lizabeth Gordon and Jack Lytle 2C Discussion and possible action to approve the minutes of September 13, 2011 A motion was made by Steve Poe to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded by Jack Lytle and the motion carried unanimously. New Business: 3R Arts Grants Andre Licardi gave a brief presentation on how the grant process was handled and handed out a list of participants and recommended award amounts from the committee. A motion was made by Pamela Potter to approve the Committee’s recommendation on this year’s Arts Grants awards with the correction to the Centennial High School Marching Band requested amount. The motion was seconded by Lizabeth Gordon and the motion carried unanimously. 4R Centennial Events Andre Licardi spoke about the upcoming Centennial Events three exhibits in City Hall. The Art Gallery by WVAM, Pine Room Baseball Hall of Fame photos and PFAA artwork. On February 4th will be the Centennial Plaza event with artist present, collecting images with paint and camera. 5R Public Art Projects Andre Licardi handed out paperwork with the Osuna Park layout with possible public art locations. Upon discussion the Commission chose location (C) for the best visibility but location (A) was also an option depending upon the art item chosen. No action taken 6R Music Venues Andre Licardi spoke about possibly having a once a month music venue concert once the Centennial Plaza is completed. He is also working with festivals to bring music into the city to possibly tie in with the Spring Training visitors. No action taken 7R Future Agenda Items The Commission did not have any future agenda items. No action taken Call to the Public: none Reports from Staff: 1. Art Gallery Exhibits Andre Licardi spoke about an agreement that the city is currently working on with the WVAM for them to handle the Art Gallery and exhibits. Kirk Haines advised the Commission that the October 18th Study Session with Council on the “State of the Arts” has been deferred to a later date. We will let you know once a date is confirmed. Reports from Commission: None Being no further business to come before the Commission, a motion was made by Steve Poe to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded by Jack Lytle.
