CITY OF PEORIA, ARIZONA Sunrise Mountain Library Community Room February 8, 2011 A Regular Meeting of the Arts Commission of the City of Peoria, Arizona, was convened at 21109 N. 98th Avenue, at 5:00 p.m. Members Present: Wayne Baxter, John Buonagurio, Lizabeth Gordon and Jack Lytle Members Absent: Linda Balance, Robert Benson and Marleejean Johnson Other Municipal Officials Present: David Hunenberg, Library Manager; Andre Licardi, Cultural Arts Coordinator; Ellen Van Riper, Assistant City Attorney and Ellen Comella, Administrative Assistant Audience: 0 Note: The order in which the items appear in the minutes is not necessarily the order in which they were discussed at the meeting. Minutes: 1C Discussion and possible action to approve/excuse member’s absence from January 11, 2011 regular meeting: Linda Balance and Lizabeth Gordon A motion was made by Wayne Baxter to approve the member’s absent from the January 11, 2011 regular meeting; the motion was seconded by Jack Lytle and the motion carried unanimously. 2C Discussion and possible action to approve the minutes of January 11, 2011 A motion was made by Wayne Baxter to approve the minutes from the January 11, 2001 regular meeting; the motion was seconded by Jack Lytle and the motion carried unanimously. New Business: 3R Presentation by City Attorney’s Office Ellen Van Riper spoke about the roles and responsibilities of the Arts Commission. The main role of the Commission is to give recommendations on art related issues to City Council who then has final approval. Ms. Van Riper went over the City Charter and City Code provisions as well. 4R Recommend Art Donation Policy A motion was made by Wayne Baxter to recommend that the City Council approve the Arts Commission Donation Policy; the motion was seconded by John Buonagurio and the motion was carried unanimously. Call to the Public: None Reports from Staff: 1. Art Gallery & Smithsonian update David Hunenberg thanked everyone who attended the VIP and Grand opening of the Art Gallery, both were a great success. A steady flow of visitors is being seen on a daily basis. 2. Celebration of Artists Andre Licardi advised that we will have approximately 110 pieces of art work this year. The reception will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. Andre is looking for volunteers for set up and take down. He will e-mail the Arts Commission with exact dates and times. 3. Downtown Art projects Andre Licardi spoke about the three projects, 84th Streetscape, Osuna Park and Centennial Plaza. Staff is working on a General Call to Artists for these and other potential art projects. 4. Bravo Peoria David Hunenberg handed out the activity schedule for the March 12th event. Will be a fun filled all day event for everyone. Reports from Commission: None Being no further business to come before the Commission, a motion was made by John Buonagurio to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded by Jack Lytle.
