Sports Complex Frequently Asked Questions

What is Peoria Sports Complex?
Built in 1994, Peoria Sports Complex was the first Major League Baseball Spring Training and player development facility in the country shared by two teams. Through 20 year leases, the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners utilize the complex year round.

Peoria Sports Complex sits on 145 acres and contains two 40,000 square foot clubhouses, indoor and outdoor batting tunnels, 12 full size practice fields (two lighted), and four half fields. The main stadium has a seating capacity of 11,333 and includes a full press box, luxury suites, lighted field, visiting team clubhouse and full concession stands. The two team clubhouses contain Major and Minor League locker rooms, coaches' locker rooms and offices, Major and Minor League training rooms, weight rooms, multipurpose rooms, media rooms, fan reception areas and offices for club personnel.

Where is Peoria Sports Complex located?
Peoria Sports Complex is located in the City of Peoria, which is a suburb of Phoenix. Just 1/4 mile south of Bell Road on 83rd Avenue, Peoria Sports Complex is easily accessible off Loop 101. View a map and directions to Peoria Sports Complex.

When do the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres report for Spring Training?
Pitchers and catchers are first to report, around mid-February. They are followed a few days later by position players. Team practices are free and open to the public daily, beginning at 9:15 am. 

When do Spring Training games begin?
Spring Training games begin the last week of February and run throughout the month of March, just prior to regular season baseball. An average season consists of about 30 games and Peoria Sports Complex usually hosts one game per day during Spring Training. 

What happens after Spring Training?
There isn't really an off season for Peoria Sports Complex. Right after Spring Training, the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres hold Extended Spring Training on the practice fields, which runs through the beginning of June. After this, they play in the Rookie Arizona Summer League through the end of August. The teams hold Fall Instructional League  through the end of October.

Also during October and November, Major League Baseball holds Arizona Fall League, with each Major League team sending their top seven prospects to Arizona. Peoria stadium has two teams, the Javelinas and Saguaros, which play nearly every day throughout the season.

In addition to Major and Minor League Baseball, Peoria Sports Complex hosts many local and national youth and adult baseball tournaments. International teams from Japan, Korea and China have also used the facility for instructional and pre-spring workouts.

Does anything other than baseball happen at Peoria Sports Complex?
Lots of non-baseball events take place at the complex each year, including car shows, arts & crafts fairs, expos, concerts, RV sales, bike races, marathons and charity fund raisers.
