PEORIA,
Ariz – (Jan. 20, 2010) – Deputy Community Services Director Grady Miller
recently announced he has accepted the town manager position of Narragansett,
Rhode Island.
Miller
has worked for the City of Peoria for over 19 years. He began working for the
City of Peoria as the Assistant to the City Manager in 1990. He continued
working in that capacity until 2002 when he was promoted to lead the
Communications and Public Affairs Department. In 2009 he became the Deputy
Director of the Community Services Department.
During
most of his career in Peoria, Miller has worked directly for Peoria’s city
managers and closely with Peoria’s Mayor and City Council.
“I’m
fortunate to have received excellent experience working with topnotch city
managers and elected officials,” explains Miller. “I’m sad to be leaving the
City of Peoria because it has been an extended family to me, but I am eager to
start working for the Town of Narragansett.”
Miller’s career accomplishments in Peoria include serving as the project manager
for the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Peoria which was
completed in 2007; launching and managing Peoria Channel 11, an award-winning
local government channel that broadcasts Peoria-based original television
programming and City Council meetings; managing and expanding Peoria’s public
art program; and securing a sister city with the Borough of Ards, Northern
Ireland.
The
Narragansett Town Council will be holding a special meeting on January 27 to
appoint Miller as town manager. As town manager, Miller will provide leadership
to an organization with 160 employees when he starts later in February.
“Grady
has been a dedicated public servant for Peoria, and has contributed a great deal
to this organization over nearly two decades,” says Carl Swenson, Peoria’s city
manager. “While he will be missed, we understand and fully support his desire to
take on new challenges in his professional life.”
Narragansett is a coastal town with 16,000 residents that lies across the bay
from Newport, Rhode Island. Prior to coming to Peoria, Miller worked five years
for the cities of Burbank and Santa Ana in Southern California. He holds a
master’s degree in public administration from ASU and a bachelor’s degree in
public administration from San Diego State University.
