Peoria Awarded $1.3 million ARRA Grant
Dollars Will Help Fund Energy and Conservation Projects

PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 19, 2010) – The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded the city of Peoria more than $1.3 million to fund energy and conservation projects. Some of the proposed projects include $865,583 to install energy-efficient lighting in city facilities and $52,287 for a pilot wind turbine program.

“This grant comes at a wonderful time,” said Deputy City Manager Susan J. Daluddung. “We can use these dollars to not only help save the environment, but also help the city save money with ongoing expenses such as energy costs. It benefits Peoria into the future.”

As part of the grant application process, Peoria had to identify the specific projects that the funds would support and develop an energy efficiency conservation strategy. The dollars were granted under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Matching dollars were not required for this grant, meaning the city does not have to spend any of its own money to undertake these projects.

The city will begin implementing these projects in February, and hope to have all complete by Dec. 31, 2012.
