Peoria, Ariz. (Sept. 28, 2009) – The
City of Peoria has selected Scott Whyte of Newport Beach, Calif., as its new
Economic Development Services Director. After confirmation by the City Council
on Oct. 6, Whyte will report to work the next day.
“Scott’s background is exactly what
the city’s looking for,” said City Manager Carl Swenson. “He’s worked in both
the private and public sector, with extensive experience in municipal economic
development, making him the ideal candidate.”
Whyte comes to Peoria from
California, where his latest assignment was Vice President of Development for
Fletcher Development Company. Prior to that, he was the Director of
Redevelopment and Economic Development Department for the city of Corona, Calif.
He holds a Masters Degree in Urban
and Regional Planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from California State University, Long
Beach.
“This is a critical time for Peoria and economic development is a high priority
for our council,” said Susan Daluddung, Deputy City Manager for Development and
Community Services. “Scott has the experience to take the city’s economic
development function to the next level. His energy and enthusiasm is
contagious.”

Whyte, who was selected from a nationwide pool of 106 applicants. His starting
salary is $135,000.
