PEORIA, Ariz. (June
23, 2009) – Peoria’s Teen TEAM is hosting the X-Games Fingerboard Skate Jam
at Rio Vista Skatepark on Wednesday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Fingerboards are
miniature skateboards, about 3 inches long, that users manipulate with their
fingers.
“You can do it indoors;
you can do it at a desk; you can do it anywhere,” says Peoria teen-recreation
programmer Steve Richardson. “It’ll definitely be different seeing kids do
tricks with their fingers. They pretty much do everything you can do in regular
skateboarding, but with their fingers.”
During the event,
fingerboarders will compete in miniature skateparks created by participants in
the city’s Step Out summer program for youths entering the sixth through ninth
grades.
There will be music and
regular skateboarding at the event as well, and everyone who shows up will
receive a free Mattel X-Games fingerboard.
