Loud music from
your car could become expensive
Police warn “Turn
it down!”
Police are noticing more and more
vehicles on our roadways with very loud music and like many valley cities,
Peoria has an ordinance (Section. 14-54) that prohibits excessive noise
emanating from loud car stereos.
The ordinance makes it unlawful to
disturb the peace and quiet of a neighborhood, family or person, or to play,
operate, or use any stereo equipment that emits loud and raucous noises and is
attached to any vehicle.
Persons will be in violation if the
music can be heard outside the vehicle from fifty (50) or more feet; or if it
annoys or disturbs the quiet or comfort of any person in the vicinity,
regardless of the distance.
Violation of
this ordinance is a civil traffic violation, punishable by a minimum fine of not
less than Two Hundred and Fifty ($250.00) Dollars.
Not only does
the loud music disturb the peace and quiet of neighborhoods it makes it where
the driver of the vehicle can not hear emergency vehicles approaching which
places everyone in danger on the roadways not just the emergency responders.
