Yearlong Climbing Programs Offer Fitness, Prizes
11/14/2007
The Rio Vista
Recreation Center is teaming up with Credit Union West to encourage family
fitness with the 2008 Mountain Goat Challenge (ages 5 to 12) and the 2008 Peak
Challenge (ages 13 and above). These “go at your own pace” fitness programs
utilize the climbing wall at the Rio Vista Recreation Center to reach the
equivalent of various mountain peaks in Arizona. Participants win a prize for
completing each peak. Climbing is an excellent fitness activity improving one’s
“inner core”, burning calories, increasing flexibility and building strong
muscles and bones. The program concludes with participants climbing the final
peak: Camelback Mountain. At that point, each climber becomes an official Rio
Vista Mountain Goat or Peak Climber. The recreation center is at 8866 W.
Thunderbird Road in Rio Vista Community Park. Reasonably priced passes start at
just $3 a day for youth. For more information visit
www.peoriaaz.gov/riovista or call the center at 623-773-8600.
