Peoria’s Economic Development Services Department will hold a press conference on Thursday, February 21 at 12:00 p.m. in the Centennial Plaza Amphitheater to announce a unique agreement between Trine University and Glendale Community College.
The Maricopa Community College District on February 13 approved Trine University’s application as a transfer partner. This brings the university one step closer to admitting MCC students and accepting existing credits from the community colleges. In honor of that milestone, Glendale Community College President Dr. Irene Kovala will be signing a partnership agreement with Trine at a signing ceremony at Peoria City Hall on February 21.
The next step in the development of the transfer agreement will be the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding that will determine the list of credits that will transfer. Trine anticipates that most, if not all, credits will transfer and become applicable toward a 4-year degree at Trine.
“Partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges is extremely valuable and significant to Trine because it enables us to offer a local, affordable, private education solution for MCC students that are looking to complete 4-year degrees,” said Dr. Earl Brooks, the President of Trine University.
Trine University signed a development agreement with the City of Peoria in October of 2012 to establish a Trine University in Peoria campus that would offer degree programs in engineering, business, and computer science, among others. The university was granted accreditation from the Arizona State Board for Private Post-Secondary Education in January.
Founded in 1884 in Angola, Indiana, Trine University offers more than 35 degree programs on its main campus, as well as online and at regional campuses and education centers throughout Indiana and Michigan. The university has become the fastest-growing private university in Indiana over the last five years, with a 68 percent increase in enrollment. U.S. News and World Report and the Princeton Review have ranked Trine among the Midwest’s Best Colleges every year since 2008. The university’s job-placement rates are above the national average. Of the university’s 2012 graduating class, 92 percent of graduates found meaningful employment or were enrolled in graduate school within six months of commencement.
The city of Peoria and Trine University, based in Angola, Ind., announced at a press conference on October 24 an agreement in which the university would open a branch campus in the city in 2013.
