Peoria Sports Complex announced their 2013 Spring Training schedule today.
The opening game is on February 22 featuring the Seattle Mariners taking on the
San Diego Padres in the annual Charity Game benefiting the Peoria Diamond Club.
The final game of Spring Training at the complex is on March 28 with the Padres
playing the Cleveland Indians.
Celebrating its 20th Spring Training season, the complex will host a total of 37
home games including two World Baseball Classic stances. In addition, there are
new promotions and season long specials for fans. "We are beyond excited to be
entering into our 20th Spring Training at the Sports Complex” said Chris Easom,
Sports Complex Manager. " We look forward to delivering that same great
experience the fans have become accustomed to when they come to watch a game in
Peoria."
The San Diego Padres will take on 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco
Giants on March 20 and the Arizona Diamondbacks March 16. The Seattle Mariners
will play the Giants on March 19 and Chicago Cubs March 21, which are both night
games. All but six home games are scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m. There are five
night games with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. and the final game of
the season will begin at 12:05 p.m.
Last spring, the Mariners and Padres agreed to a long-term 20 year lease
agreement with city of Peoria keeping Peoria Sports Complex as the teams' Spring
Training and player development home until 2034. "We were the first Spring
Training facility to be home to two teams in the Cactus League," said Carl
Swenson, Peoria City Manager. "Our partnership with the teams has grown stronger
every year, creating an environment where people from across the Valley enjoy
coming to see baseball at its finest."
Both Seattle and San Diego pitchers and catchers will report to Spring
Training on February 12 and hold their first workouts on February 13. All
position players will report February 15 and the first full-squad workouts will
be held February 16.
