PEORIA, Ariz. (Oct. 27, 2011) – Peoria will stage
its fourth annual Veterans Day Celebration and 5K run Saturday, Nov. 5, at Rio
Vista Community Park.
Highlights include the 5K and accompanying one-mile
Family Fitness Walk, a free pancake breakfast and a roundtable discussion with
Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett and other veterans discussing their military
experiences.
The day begins with registration and check-in for
the 5K from 6 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. The run will get under way at 7:30 a.m., with
the noncompetitive Family Fitness Walk starting 10 minutes later. The fitness
events will begin and end near the group picnic area. The course will be along
the New River bike path and past the Peoria Veterans Wall. The free pancake
breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The mayor’s event will start at 8:15 a.m., with an
introduction from Barrett followed by the veterans roundtable, which will take
place during the pancake breakfast in the Lakeview Room.
