Redistricting Enters Its Final Stages
5/24/2011
June and early July will be crunch time for those redrawing Peoria’s City Council Districts, as the options narrow and the public has a final opportunity to comment.
-
On June 7, the City Council will hold a study session to review nine concept maps, including three new ones, with a goal of narrowing the field to a few preferred options.
-
On June 14, the city will conduct one or two “scoping meetings” so residents can indicate their preferences among the final few maps. If any of the three additional concept maps remains in play, this would be the first opportunity for the public to comment on it.
-
Finally, at its June 21 session, the City Council will choose its preferred concept, which then will be finalized and brought up for a vote at the first meeting in July. Pending approval by the federal Justice Department, that plan will set the lines for the 2012 elections.
These sessions are open to the public and, as always, will be telecast on Cox channel 11 and at
