PEORIA, Ariz. (Dec.
2, 2010) – City Manager Carl Swenson has appointed Wanda Nelson to be
Peoria’s city clerk, pending confirmation by the City Council at its Dec. 7
meeting.
Nelson was city clerk
and human resources director for Rifle, Colo., from February 2002 to August
2010. She has a master’s degree in management from Regis University in Denver
and a bachelor’s in social work from Colorado State University. She is a
certified municipal clerk through the International Institute of Municipal
Clerks and a member of the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association.
“Wanda's experience,
background and personable approach to her work made her rise to the top in our
selection process. She will be a great addition to our city leadership team,”
said City Manager Carl Swenson. “I’m confident that Wanda will continue to
provide the high quality of service our residents have come to expect.”
In her role, Nelson
will lead the City Clerk's Office; serve as official clerk to the City Council;
attend City Council meetings and record all official proceedings; direct the
publication, recording, filing, indexing and safekeeping of all proceedings of
the City Council; and serve as the city elections official.
“I’m truly excited
about the opportunity to bring my eight-plus years of municipal clerk experience
to the city of Peoria," Nelson said.
Nelson was selected
from a pool of 93 applicants. If confirmed, she will begin as Peoria’s city
clerk on Dec. 8 at a salary of $98,000. She replaces Mary Jo Waddell, who
retired Aug. 31.
