Peoria Accepts 'Christmas for the Troops' Drop-off Boxes
10/12/2010
City buildings are hosting collection bins for the Peoria Sunset Lions Club’s Christmas for the Troops drive. Christmas for the Troops gathers everyday items for shipment to U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those things include:
-
Items for the troops themselves, such as toiletries, white tube socks, snack food, books and magazines. Also dog food, treats and toys for dogs in K-9 units.
-
Phone cards that troops can use to check in with their families.
-
Candy and simple toys – such as Slinkys, Silly Putty and yo-yos – to give to children in deployment areas.
Monetary donations also are needed to help pay for postage. Those can be sent to Peoria Sunset Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 326, Peoria, Ariz. 85380-0326.
