Work Part of Beardsley/Loop 101 Connection Project
9/9/2010
PHOENIX – Drivers who normally use the
intersection of Beardsley Road and 83rd Avenue in Peoria should consider an
alternate route this weekend and Monday (Sept. 13) due to restrictions needed
for the reconstruction of the intersection. Beardsley Road will be closed in
both directions from 6 a.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Monday, while 83rd Avenue will
either be closed or narrowed.
The primary detour route will be 91st Avenue and Union Hills Drive, according to
the Arizona Department of Transportation. ADOT is overseeing the ongoing project
to connect Beardsley Road to Loop 101 west of the freeway.
The following restrictions will be in place at the Beardsley/83rd Avenue
intersection this weekend:
• Beardsley Road closed and 83rd Avenue narrowed to one lane in both directions
from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 11) and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday
(Sept. 13).
• The intersection of Beardsley and 83rd Avenue completely closed to all traffic
from 2 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday (Sept. 13).
• Beardsley Road closed and 83rd Avenue narrowed to two southbound lanes and one
northbound lane from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday (Sept. 13).
Although drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, access to local
businesses and neighborhoods in the area will be maintained. The same
restrictions are scheduled to be in place over the weekend of Sept. 25-27.
The work is part of an ongoing $14.8 million project to connect Beardsley Road
to Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway). The project, funded through the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is scheduled for completion in fall 2011.
