PEORIA, Ariz. (Aug.
23, 2010) – Peoria is asking residents to help name the city’s next
community park, which is expected to open in the fall of 2012 at the northeast
corner of 83rd Avenue and Butler Drive.
The park is currently
in the design phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2011.
Plans for the 80-acre
site include six lighted youth baseball/softball fields, four lighted soccer
fields, a 5-acre urban fishing lake, a dog park, a skate court, a water splash
area, playgrounds, picnic areas and shaded areas. It will be Peoria’s second
community park, following Rio Vista. Community parks are 50 acres or more, while
neighborhood parks tend to be 8-to-25 acres.
Suggested names should:
-
describe the
geography of the park;
-
recognize a name
within a specific community, subdivision or development; or
-
reflect something
unique to Peoria, the Valley or the Southwest.
This park-naming
contest is open to all Peoria residents. The winner will be recognized at the
park’s opening ceremony. Folks can submit ideas through Sept. 30 by e-mailing
communityservices@peoriaaz.gov,
taking the online survey at
www.peoriaaz.gov/namethepark, calling 623-773-7287 or mailing suggestions to
