Five-Week Course to Improve Fiction, Memoir Writing

Rio Vista Recreation Center is hosting a five-week adult course on fiction and memoir writing, which will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday nights from March 29 through April 26. The class will cover topics such as point-of-view, metaphor and description; dialogue; scene development; and characterization. Students should bring to class a loose-leaf binder and 10 copies of their written work to share for critique. The written work can be 10-to-15 pages of fiction or memoir, but it should be typed, double-spaced and printed on one side of a page only. Each student will receive a personal, 40-minute critique in class. Registration is $61 for Peoria residents and $66 for non-residents, plus a $2 supply fee; the deadline is Thursday, March 25.
