Crews to Resurface Thunderbird East of Loop 101
Motorists Will See Intermittent Lane Closures Feb. 24 through March 2
2/19/2010
PEORIA, Ariz. (Feb.
19, 2010) – Motorists on Thunderbird Road between 67th Avenue and Loop 101
can expect lane closures from Wednesday, Feb. 24, through Tuesday, March 2, as
city contractors apply a microsurface to the road.
Microsurfacing is a
polymer-modified, cold-mix paving system that can remedy a broad range of
problems on city streets. The mixture is made and applied to existing pavements
by a specialized machine that carries all components, mixes them on-site and
spreads the mixture onto the road surface. Once sealed, the new surface will
extend the life of the pavement.
Traffic is permitted
back on the roadway within an hour in most cases, so lane closures will be
relatively short. The length of the project will be short too: It will begin at
Loop 101 and move east to the city limits over six days.
