Mesquite District Update for January 22, 2013
In September 2011, the City of Peoria opened the Palo Verde Park, located along the west side of 73rd Drive and Briles Road, just north of Happy Valley Road. A long time coming, the eastern four acres of the nineteen acre Frog Tanks Wash within the Palo Verde Ruins were transformed into a neighborhood park.
The Palo Verde Ruin is a significant cultural resource within the City of Peoria. At one time the ruin was the largest prehistoric habitation village of the Hohokams on the New River. Over the past year, the park was placed on the National Register of Historic Places list. Since that time, the City has been working to complete the Interpretive Sign Plan for the public trails in the area to help share Peoria's archeological heritage of the site.
If you haven't already, visit the park to enjoy the amenities and take in part of Arizona's great history. For additional information about the Palo Verde Ruin Interpretive Plan, please CLICK HERE.
