M. Emily Nottingham, Ph.D.
Emily Nottingham worked for thirty years for the city of Tucson in affordable housing, community development and social services, ending her career there as Community Services Department Director. After retiring in 2008 she taught Planning classes at the University of Arizona and currently provides training and technical assistance throughout the country.
Emily has a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She holds a Master’s Degree from Fairfield University and a Doctorate in Mass Communications from Indiana University. She has held adjunct faculty positions at Pima Community College, Indiana University, and University of Arizona.
She is active in several community organizations. Her current community activities include the City of Tucson Industrial Development Authority, the Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding, the Arizona Trail Association, and other non-profits.
Emily is the proud mother of two sons, Ben and Gabe Zimmerman. Gabe was killed in the January, 2011 mass shooting in Tucson. Since that time she has spoken about the role of public service in communities.
