Crime Prevention & Education Program Tailored for Seniors Living in Peoria
|
"Seniors and Law Enforcement Together"
The Police Department will be hosting an event, which include an agenda full of crime prevention and education topics presented by police personnel tailored for seniors living in Peoria. The program is called S.A.L.T., which stands for Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (see attached flyers).
Seniors are often targeted by criminals who see them as more vulnerable and less of a threat. In many cases seniors are more isolated from other family members who would otherwise help protect them. The Police Department believes it is important for seniors to understand where they are vulnerable, how they can protect themselves, and what resources are available through the Peoria Police Department or elsewhere to help them.
Registration is still open and the process is detailed in the flyer. These events are free, and are open to all seniors who reside in Peoria, regardless of which community they live in. Lunch will be served by the Texas Roadhouse, and other event sponsors are the AARP, the Peoria Diamond Club, and the Peoria Chamber of Commerce.
