General Information  

Background
The City of Peoria, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and with General Fund monies, provides funding to not-for-profit agencies whose programs provide services to eligible recipients. These funds are administered by the Neighborhood and Revitalization Section of the Planning and Community Development Department and are awarded by the Council Not-for-Profit Subcommittee annually. The City has funded not-for-profit agencies through HUD and the General Fund for many years.

Programs and grants funded by HUD that are eligible for review through the Council Not-for-Profit Review and Housing Subcommittee are the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME Program. In general, these programs were designed to assist low and moderate income citizens with a broad range of services including housing assistance, family services, domestic violence shelter, disabled services and transportation services to name a few.

Grants funded by General Fund monies are generally designed to assist Peoria residents and include activities such as health and welfare programs, children’s programs, arts programs, music programs, homebound services, elderly assistance and many others.
