Green Building
According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), buildings account for 72% of the nation's electricty consumption, 39% of the nation's CO2 emissions, and nearly 14% of potable water consumption. Building to higher standards of sustinability, such as those set forth in the USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, can reduce the resources required to build and operate facilities by up to 70%.
The City of Peoria has committed to new facility construction standards. Newly constructed facilities will be built to a minimum of a LEED Silver standard. The renovated Municipal Court Building has received a LEED Gold Rating!
